According to Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences, Professor Onalbai Ayashev, archaeological excavations in the medieval city of Utyrly date back to the VIII-XII centuries. The city was built during the Oghuz period. This is evidenced by the artifacts found in the city.
- Uturtobe is a very unique project in terms of design. The peak of urban development fell on the X-XII centuries. This period is typical for all cities of Central Asia and Kazakhstan. The city had trade and economic relations with other cities. The ceramics, metal and jewelry found during excavations are very similar to artifacts from other cities. The city of Uturtobe is geopolitically located on the left bank of the Syr Darya, at the junction of nine roads. The city's construction project is also in line with the design of medieval cities. At the same time, the location of the cemetery outside the city showed that Islam was the main religion of the townspeople. The buildings of this city are built of mud bricks and ceramic bricks. This traditional building is typical for the cities of Syrdarya. The discovery of foreign jewelry and glassware in Uturtob proves that it is located on an offshoot of the Great Silk Road. There is every reason to believe that one of the branches of the Great Silk Road passed through this region, - said Onalbai Ayashev.

The Syrdariya University in Zhetysai was the first to draw attention to the medieval city. Under the initiative of professors of the department of domestic and foreign history Sabira Apasheva and Myrzabay Meirbekov, the University allocated funds to the medieval city of Utyrly (Uturtobe).

Scientist Sabira Apashova noted that the town of Uturtobe is poorly studied at the archaeological level.
She said the reason was that the region was under Uzbek control until the 1970s and that she went to Tashkent in search of Yuri Buryakov, a professor at the Uzbek Institute of Archeology who had studied the topic. However, the Uzbek scholar was too old to give a full account at that time. According to S. Apashova, a comprehensive study of the city of Uturtobe was carried out.
Only when the secrets of Mintobe and Kultobe are revealed. But in the city of Uturtobe, the fact that it is not included in the archaeological map of Kazakhstan gives a long-term impetus to the study of its history. According to the historian, the preservation of a settlement on the banks of the Syr Darya, in the middle of a cotton field, is a gift from God. Now the task is to inspect the old cache underground in the city with the help of modern technologies, to return valuable places to the state if they are found. ...

It is obvious that the Syrdarya was a city that could be connected with water. “If it were included in the archaeological map, it would be possible to search for data on world history associated with Uturtobe,” said S. Apashova.
