Tashenev University and Universiti Malaysia Sabah Expand International Cooperation
On September 1, 2026, Tashenev University welcomed a delegation from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), a public university in Malaysia. As part of the official visit, representatives of the two universities held a meeting and signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at developing academic and scientific cooperation.
Dr. Fauzia Suleiman presented the academic and research opportunities offered by the Malaysian university, highlighting promising areas for cooperation with Tashenev University and expressing her hope for the further development of joint initiatives.
The Faculty of Science and Technology at UMS is of particular interest to Tashenev University. The faculty conducts educational and research activities in the fields of science, technology, and environmental sustainability. It encompasses a wide range of disciplines, including environmental science, industrial physics, geology, marine science, aquaculture, biotechnology, industrial chemistry, mathematics, and computer graphics.
The faculty employs 98 staff members, including 14 professors, 21 associate professors, 48 senior lecturers, and 7 lecturers. UMS also offers master's and doctoral programs in applied sciences, Earth sciences, mathematics, biotechnology, and environmental science.
The university's location in Sabah, a region rich in natural resources and marine biodiversity, provides favorable conditions for research in environmental studies, natural resource management, marine science, geology, and sustainable development.
The Rector of Tashenev University, Zhanar Kassymbekovna Rysbekova, noted that cooperation with Universiti Malaysia Sabah has significant potential for developing joint educational programs, scientific research, and academic exchanges. She emphasized that the signed Memorandum of Understanding provides a concrete foundation for these initiatives.
The visit by the UMS delegation marked a new stage in the development of Tashenev University's international partnerships and strengthened academic ties between Kazakhstan and Malaysia.
