ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

The Zhumabek Tashenev University is located in the city of Shymkent, the third largest metropolis in the country. Its history and origins begin 23 years ago, with the formation of Syrdarya University. In 1998, Syrdarya University was opened in the city of Zhetysai, South Kazakhstan region of the modern Turkestan region, with the aim of attracting young people from remote areas of the southern part of the country to receive higher education. Over the course of 23 years, this educational institution has become one of the leading private higher education institutions with a long history and traditions. Syrdarya University, with almost a quarter-century history, has been a center of education and science, offering a wide range of educational programs.
In 2022, a proposal was received from the Government and the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan to move this university to Shymkent. Thus, from this academic year, Syrdarya University was renamed to “Zhumabek Akhmetuly Tashenev University”. The name of the university was not chosen by chance; the enormous historical contribution of Zhumabek Akhmetuly Tashenev as an outstanding statesman and public figure in the development of our country, the integrity of our land and future generations was taken into account. Zh. Tashenov made a great contribution to the preservation of the territorial integrity of the Kazakh state; he influenced the political, economic and cultural development of the republic.
In the main academic building of the university there are 4 large faculties, 9 departments, a Center for Innovative Research, a library, modern classrooms, including laboratories in chemistry, biology, physics and computer rooms, and a medical service office. The material and technical base of the university meets all the requirements. Two dormitories with a capacity of 220 beds are open for nonresident students. The dormitory is one of the most interesting and fun places for students to spend time. All conditions for studying and recreation of students are created here. All living rooms are equipped with all necessary furniture and household appliances. Extensive conditions have been created for students to practice sports, art and develop personal creativity outside of class.

Teaching staff

The teaching staff of the university consists of 180 highly qualified specialists, whose potential meets the requirements of the state compulsory education standard, as well as the qualification requirements for the activities of educational organizations implementing educational programs of higher and postgraduate education. The university's teaching staff consists of: 13 Doctors of Science, 63 Candidates of Science, 8 Doctors of Philosophy (PhD), 73 Masters of Science. Among the best teachers, 5 are holders of badges named after I. Altynsarin, 5 are holders of badges “Honored Worker of Education” and three teachers were awarded medals “Best University Teacher” received from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The university effectively stimulates the quality work of faculty and university staff. The incentive, as an important tool of the quality management system, is implemented in the form of rating additional payments. Continuous improvement is carried out on the basis of systematic verification of the quality of education, research and development.

The university actively cooperates with 15 domestic universities and 12 international universities from Jerusalem, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, such as: Omsk State Pedagogical University (OMSPU), Tomsk State Pedagogical University, Chirchik State Pedagogical Institute, Ataturk University, Ștefan cel Mare University of Suceava, Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), Tchaikovsky State Institute of Physical Culture, Institute of Genetics and Experimental Plant Biology of the Academy of Sciences of Ruz, Samara State Institute of Culture, Kazan State Institute of Culture, Research Institute of Plant Genetic Resources.

Over the 20 years of its existence, the university has been visited by many famous people of the country: the first Kazakh cosmonaut, national hero Toktar Aubakirov, champion of the Beijing Olympics Bakhyt Sarsekbayev, outstanding Turkologists, researchers of the history of Kazakh literature Rahmankul Berdibay, Myrzatai Zholdasbekov, Dukenbay Doszhan, cultural figure of the Republic of Kazakhstan, actor Sabit Orazbayev , editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Egemen Kazakhstan” Sautbek Abdrakhmanov, outstanding writer Markhabat Baigut. All guests of the university met with students and university staff and expressed their best wishes.
International relations are strengthened through the exchange of experience with foreign scientists who visited our university and took part in solving important tasks assigned to the university: in 2012, a delegation led by the mayor of Dandes, Hungary Laszlo Farago, in 2013, a senator of the French parliament, a world leader level Emery de Montesquieu, professor at the University of Cambridge, outstanding scientist Siddhardt Saxena, professor from Dortmund, Germany, Doctor of Historical Sciences Walter Friesen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to Kazakhstan, statesman and public figure of Hungary Andras Barany, Deputy Director for Research of the Financial University of Russia, Bari Galymovich Khairov, rector of the Tajik Pedagogical Institute in Penjikent, Tajikistan, Doctor of Philology, Professor Ansorov Muazzom Kudrodzoto.
 

TIMELINE

1998
The first intake of students in 1998 was carried out for 2 faculties: “Natural Science and Economics” and “Social Sciences and Humanities”.
The university, as an educational institution, was created to solve social problems by attracting young people from remote areas of the south of the country to receive higher education, training them as spiritually rich, intelligent, qualified specialists.
2005 
On the Day of Knowledge on September 1, 2005, for the opening of a new academic building, the head of state N.A. Nazarbayev visited the university as part of a working visit to the Makhtaaral district of the South Kazakhstan region.
September 1, 2005 President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. Nazarbayev’s special visit to the university and participation in the opening ceremony of the new academic building of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology gave the staff of the educational institution a special impetus.
2010
In 2010, the Innovative Research Center was opened with the aim of organizing and conducting research work of faculty, students and undergraduates in the following specialties: “5B011000-Physics”, “5B011200-Chemistry”, “5B011300-Biology”, “5B060700” -Biology".
2013
In the 2013-2014 academic year, the university celebrated its 15th anniversary. During this time, more than 9 thousand specialists were trained who successfully work for the benefit of the republic. If at the time of opening the university had only one academic building, today there are 5 academic buildings, an Innovation Research Center, 4 libraries, a Student Palace with 500 seats, and a dormitory with 320 seats.
2015
The university took fourth place in the top ten universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan in terms of the volume of electronic library resources; work is actively underway to digitalize the educational process and digitize educational resources.
2016
The university was one of the first to successfully pass institutional and specialized accreditation by the Independent Kazakhstan Agency for Quality Assurance in Education and the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating. Received certificates. In addition, the university is certified by the Turkish Standards Institute, a certification body for quality management systems.
2017
The educational institution pays special attention not only to education, science, but also to spiritual and cultural education. Syrdarya University, which implements a unique concept of educating young people, which is the core of spiritually significant events, has established itself at the republican level. Proof of this is the KVN team “Syrdariya Kuramasy”, which at the end of 2017 took 1st place and became the champion of the republican games of the Major League.
2018
The university celebrated its 20th anniversary. A multidisciplinary college “Zhetysai” was opened on the basis of the university. A new educational program 5B011800 has opened - “Russian Language and Literature”.
2019
According to the results of the National Business Rating of Enterprises of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2019, Syrdarya University was included in the “Silver Rating” of two national ratings in the “Higher Education” category:
1. “Contribution to the state treasury”;
2. “Reliable taxpayer.”
Based on the results of the nationwide differentiation of taxpayers of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Syrdarya University won the “Industry Leader - 2019” award.
