One Wrong Click Could Cost You Your Data in an Instant: Cybersecurity Discussed at Tashenev University

Tashenev University hosted an informational meeting with first-year students focused on cybersecurity, preventing online fraud, and safe behavior in the digital environment.

The event was attended by Mukhit Abutalipovich Kemelov, Head of the Digitalization Department of Shymkent City, alongside operational officers from the Cybercrime Counteraction Department of the Shymkent City Police Department, Police Captains Bakhytzhan Tursynbayuly Bekbayev and Yerdaulet Kanatuly Yeraliyev. The meeting was moderated by Nuray Zhakabay, Vice-Rector for Social Affairs and Youth Policy at the university.

Mukhit Kemelov, Head of the Shymkent Digitalization Department, emphasized that digital literacy among young people has become a crucial element of personal safety in modern society.

"Today, digital literacy is not merely about knowing how to use technology; it is primarily about knowing how to protect your data. A single suspicious link, an SMS code shared with someone, or personal information entered into an unverified app can make anyone a victim of fraudsters. That is why every young person must make caution and responsibility in the digital environment a daily habit," said Mukhit Kemelov.

Police Captains Bakhytzhan Bekbayev and Yerdaulet Yeraliyev informed students about common online fraud and cybercrime tactics. They provided actionable advice on identifying fake calls and messages, avoiding phishing links, and keeping bank card details and SMS codes confidential. Additionally, they warned students against doubtful "easy money" schemes and attempts to recruit them as money mules (droppers).

Moderator Nuray Zhakabay highlighted that raising the legal and digital literacy of students—especially first-years adapting to a new environment—is a key priority of the university’s educational and developmental programs.

During the session, students asked experts questions and received clear guidance on where to report incidents and what steps to take if they encounter fraudulent activity.
