Scratch Sparks Curiosity: Tashenеv University Research Highlights Boost in Primary School Engagement and Achievement
In a new Q2 publication in Open Education Studies (64th percentile), Venera Nakhipova from Tashenеv University co-authored a study examining the impact of the Scratch programming platform on student engagement and academic outcomes in primary schools.
Scratch is a visual, block-based programming language designed for children. It enables young learners to create animations, games, and interactive stories while developing logical thinking.
Key findings:
· Students using Scratch showed significantly higher engagement during lessons;
· 78% demonstrated improved performance in mathematics, reading, and problem-solving;
· Learners became more confident, creative, and self-directed.
The study emphasizes that digital tools like Scratch are not just supplementary technologies — they are powerful motivators and gateways to early interest in programming and algorithmic thinking.
