“Art and artistic work”

The "Design" department was established in 1998 as part of "Syrdariya" University, which was opened in 1998 in Zhetysay city, Zhetysay district of South Kazakhstan region. The first head of the department was Böri Isa, a cultural figure of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The specialty "Fine Arts and Design" was opened in 2000. At that time, the department was headed by Zhenis Kalmuratov, a member of the Union of Artists of Kazakhstan.

In 2005, the "Fine Arts and Drawing" department was reorganized into the "Fine Arts and Design" department. The head of the department was Candidate of Philosophy, Associate Professor Daulethan Bolysbaev.

During 2008-2022, the department was reorganized and named the "Art and Design" department. During this period, the department was formed on the basis of the merger of the "Fine Arts and Design" and "Music Education" departments, where music and art labor teachers and design specialists were trained. The department was headed by Candidates of Pedagogical Sciences - Gulnar Yesenkyzy Kozhagulova and Uldanay Alibekkyzy Saparbaeva. In 2022, in connection with the relocation of Syrdariya University to Shymkent city, the university was named after Zh.A. Tashenov. The "Art and Design" department was headed by Master, Senior Lecturer Irina Stepanovna Kim. From the 2023 academic year, the department was called "Art and Music", and Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Balzhan Seydramankyzy Tleubaeva was appointed as the head of the department.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, the faculty of the department consisted of 31 people:

• 1 professor
• 6 candidates of sciences and associate professors
• 2 doctors of philosophy (PhD)
• 2 cultural figures of the Republic of Kazakhstan
• 12 masters of science, senior lecturers
• 11 masters of science, lecturers

The faculty of the department fully corresponds to educational programs.

From the 2024-2025 academic year, due to the reorganization of the university into a joint-stock company, there were changes in the university structure. Accordingly, the department was divided into two: "Music and Singing" and "Design" departments. The "Design" department was headed by Balzhan Seydramankyzy Tleubaeva.

From the 2025-2026 academic year, due to changes in the university structure, the department was reorganized into the "Art and Artistic Labor" department. This department is focused on training teachers of music and artistic labor subjects. The head of the department is Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Karsybaev Bastarbek Tokhtaruly.

All classrooms of the "Art and Artistic Labor" department are equipped with necessary methodological textbooks, visual aids, instruments and furniture.

In the new academic year, the faculty of the department consists of 21 people.

The department's staff has developed several textbooks, educational-methodical manuals, educational-methodical complexes based on credit technology (syllabus), methodical instructions for disciplines, lecture collections, texts for students' independent work, and electronic textbooks.

The staff of the "Art and Artistic Labor" department trains qualified specialists who can work in the fields of education, science and culture. The department's teachers are engaged in creative work and are laureates of republican, international, and regional festivals of various levels. They also actively participate in all events held at the faculty, university, and city levels.
